Why do you enjoy teaching at Cabrini?
Cabrini is a family. I always tell Cabrini graduates that once a Cabrini kid, always a Cabrini kid. I really love how the students are accepting of each other’s differences. I enjoy teaching and learning about music from all styles and cultures. I also really appreciate what Cabrini offers to the Near South Side of the city. I like being part of such a vibrant school that welcomes the world to our little corner of St. Louis.
How would you describe your teaching style and methods?
Along with my husband Dennis, we teach music by incorporating instruments, singing, movement, and drama into our weekly lesson plans. It is important that all students have a working knowledge of fundamental music theory, but we also want to express that theory through the study of different styles and cultures of music. Lastly, we have developed a strong middle school theater education curriculum that culminates in an 8th grade musical theater production.
